The faces are the same. The time has aged but not changed them. Some of those places, however, no longer exist. They have not been overwhelmed by the signs of the time, but rather by the catastrophe that on  April 6th 2009 has changed the history of L’Aquila. What did the capital of Abruzzo look like before the earthquake? How is it today?  During previous anniversaries of the earthquake, il Centro has made, on its website, a photo-comparison of symbolic places still not rebuilt. Now, after 5 years we change perspective, looking into the lives of people of a town that mourns 309 victims of the earthquake. We asked 55 people to seek a picture taken before the tragedy. And we captured a new one in the same place. The result is a photo-comparison, which also became an exhibition at Casa Onna (L’Aquila). Images from a happy past turned into a present marked by rubbles and shorings. A photographic journey enriched by the stories of those who have agreed to share a part of their existence: grief and hope, fear and joy, life and death, in a fragment of life that is now history (Go to the italian version)
Each photo is a twofold: drag like a curtain the arrows left or right to move go through the images taken before and five years after the earthquake. Under the shots you can found the story of the characters in this gallery.
